One of my clients called me today in tears all the hours she spent planting her garden was destroyed in a hour when her Golden retriever puppy thought it was a playground made for her. Sharing your home with a dog or cat means sharing your backyard. Most yards are not designed to prevent pet problems. It can be avoided with planing made easy. 1. Fencing Factors: Fencing to keep pets in as well as out. 2. Grass can take a beating from dogs that run the fence line or used as a potty area. Growing Bermuda,St Ausgtine or zoysia grow by sending out runners,so bare spots fill themselves in. *Use bark or decomposed granite around shrubs or trees-never cocoa mulch, which is toxic to dogs if ingested.

3. Choose trees and shrubs for shade and color, and flowers to attract bees and butterflies-but keep our dog in mind "most plants can be irritants to dog and cat such as sago palm, foxglove and oleander, can be deadly. Check the list with ASPCA"S toxic plant list (aspca.org/pet-care/poison-control). A designated potty area made from a porous, synthetic lawn material will let urine drain into the soil while making poop scooping easier. For odor control, hose the turf as needed,or spray it with an organic enzyme cleaner designed for use with dogs. Something more natural cedar chips it will reduce urine odors.

4. FUN ACTIVITIES FOR ALL A dog's boredom can destroy yard. Create interesting things for the dog to do as you would for a toddler safety included.A digging pit in a cool location is simple as a covered toddler pool you can purchase at toy store or have one made filled with sand and hidden toys. A baby pool full of water. A agility course with tunnels that can sit on artificial turf. Fertilize plants with bone meal. For dogs that love to herd, try a soccer ball and net.Creating a animal - friendly landscape is fun and creates innovative thinking. Have fun and make your pet smile.
