Herbs for Arthritis
Herbs are greatly helpful additions to other alternative medicine treatments. The key here is to match the herbal prescription to the critter and his or her particular form of arthritis. This is not always a easy task. There are over 100 herbs that can help with arthritis and not everyone works for each pet. Here re some of my favorite.
Alfalfa (Medicago saliva) and yucca root (yucca spp). Alfalfa is one of the best of traditional herbs, with 10 percent of humans treated responding well and others gaining partial relief. The best part of these two herbs is that they can be grown in your back yard.
Devils Claw (Harpagophytum procumbent), an herb which is potent anti-inflammatory and a specific for treating arthritis and rheumatism.
Frankincense (Boswellia spp.)another herb traditionally used for arthritis treatment in Ayurvedic medicine.
Turmeric (Curcuma longa),an anti-inflammatory herb that has been effectively used as a specific for arthritis in Ayurvedic medicine and many dogs like the taste of turmeric.
Patient is the key word here when using herbs alternative treatments takes at least 60-90 days to see changes. And resign yourself to the fact that herbs and supplements must be used for the life of a pet or human.Herbs can be used in tinctures, capsules, and sprinkled on a pets food. Tinctures can be toxic so educate yourself be for using any supplement in a pets diet.
