Print  Tuesday, March 24, 2009     An unusual new sight for a new puppy   TRAINING TIP

1. Begin to introduce your puppy to the new experience from a distance. 2. Gradually get closer to the stimuli. Continue to treat and encourage your pup. (Treats are a greet way too build a positive association to something, sounds and places new). 3.Do not crouch down and pet the dog if signs of stress begin or if the dog is barking this will only increase the behavior you are trying to change. Stand up tall be calm and move quietly a little farther away and still give treats. In all good time your goals will be reached just maybe not in that session.

4.Allow your puppy the opportunity ti investigate but only on a leash. 5.Whenever possible, ask calm non frighten peole too meet and greet. Do not allow them to crouch down and let the dog jump up or you will be training the dog it is a god thing to jump on people and so will the visitor. 6.Your pup should get a treat for checking things out. 7. Take advantage of all opportunities, such as a cyclist passing by.

8. End the experience with a big release or perhaps a game of hide and go seek.
