Friday, August 29, 2008 Submissive Urination TRAINING TIP
Some puppies will urinate a few drops when overly excited, especially when greeted by
faimly and friends.Although many dog owners think this is a house training issue,it
really isn't.The urine leakage is called submissive urination and is a physical reaction to
excitement. Both male and female puppies will do this and most grow out of it.
If your lab has a problem with this response,do not yell at your dog when it happens.
Because urination is a reaction to excitement, your dog has no control over it and
yelling could make it worse.
When you come home or any one who enters must ignore the dog for 5 minutes or untill
the dog calms down.No touching or eye contact is a must since this also will induce
the mishap. If your greetings are to emotional, you will make your dog more emotional
which will result in more leakage.:)Be a good Human. Julia
